One of the most important things you can learn as a golfer is how to control the ground with your feet during the golf swing motion. Your feet are instrumental in keeping your center of gravity in place as you swing the club, and any movement in your feet translates into movement in your COG, causing the bottom of your swing to move around. Since the ball is stationary on the ground, your COG needs to be stationary so you can be a consistent ball striker.
The knuckles of your big toes (where the bunions grow) are your anchors on the ground. When you are able to maintain pressure on these spots during your golf swing, consistency and quality of ball contact will raise dramatically.
The Center of Gravity Golf system emphasizes this as the second fundamental to building your golf swing. Get control of your feet, and you will get control of your consistency.
