On Friday, November 23, 2018 Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson will go head-to-head in a match play event at Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas, NV. The two golf icons will be competing for a winner-take-all $9 million prize.

In anticipation of the big match, I’m taking a look at Tiger Woods’ golf swing vs. Phil Mickelson’s golf swing. I go over what I like – and don’t like – in each of their swings and lay out my pick to win.

  1. Why do you think Tiger no longer talks about being stuck? His old solution under Butch as he said was to wait for the arms to drop. Do you think he’s found a better solution in terms of clearing and rotating the shoulders faster to keep up with the hips? Also, why do you think his right foot now seems to be jetting out versus not so in 2000? Is it how he now rotates?

Interesting to hear from golf channel that apparently Tiger and Notah were reviewing VHS tapes of his swing from 1995 to 2000 to try to recreate his more natural swing. Apparently used Como to help with the transition back and to validate things from a bio mechanical perspective. Haven’t really seen any deep dives or even interview questions of what he’s intentionally trying to work with his swing, and how he now views his swing under Butch, Haney, Foley, Como, vs now and what he’s learned—would be a master class on the golf swing if he ever decides to really open up about it.

  2. I always noticed how extended Phil was at the bottom. Never understood how he could be so extended and still stay down through the ball.

  3. I'd rather have Mickelson's classic body-friendly swing than Tiger's back-breaker swing.

In fact, as a coaching pro, rather than bashing Mickelson you should be advocating many parts of what he does. You put up a comparison of some unknown minor league tour guy!? Against one of the greatest players to have ever played! lol Embarrassing. Unsubbed.

  4. I’d never heard the term lead arm depth until I started watching your videos. It has been huge in my ball striking improvements in the last year. Just wanted to say thanks for your work. Heading to your site today
