Shawn Clement, Director of the Richmond Hill Golf Learning Centre, and 2011 Ontario PGA Class A Teacher of the year nominee, shows you how to start your swing properly and smoothly; and understanding that it is not a specific body part that you need to focus on, rather the fact that you should already be in motion and reacting to the swing to the target!

  1. To Stephen Edwards below, the reason you're having a tendency to shank is because you are taking the rhythmic swing and turning it into a sway and then a slide, meaning your hips are sliding in before you shoulders and arms and the hosel is leading into the ball. Try the same tempo, but keep everything turning round a fixed 'axis' rather than a slide

  2. Having watched you for years and years, it may surprise you, Shawn, that in my opinion, one of your best videos is this one. bill

  11. What an awesome way to explain it! I can't wait to go play and try this tbkhght process out. I just lut this same comment on the last video i watched by accident. It was meant for this one.

  12. wow, I am glad I am getting into the nitty gritty. Your analogies, are very helpful, the wrecking ball thing really helps me stay connected and allowing the momentum do all the work. thanks. l think of it as my pre-shot/waggle routine.

  13. Hi Shawn,
Just some athletic thoughts. In my opinion the biggest fault in the golf swing is to attempt to co-ordinate the club moving back with the body doing the same. This is counter-intuitive. It is like teaching someone to march with the right arm following the right leg or throwing a ball just by turning the whole body in one movement. A conscious effort must be made to counterbalance the club going back with the lower body going forward right from the start and not to wait until the top of the back swing to uncoil.
If you plant your feet and keep your head still and swing a heavy object backwards and behind something must counterbalance that weight shift .  What is it, when does it start and how does it grow? I believe it is the lower body and the early timing of this is the key.

  14. screw 696   your  bloke and awful swing comment is absurd..this guy has a pure, smooth, and  powerful swing.    (whats awful is a  dumbass hack  like you commenting on these sites..
