THE KEYS TO COMPRESSING THE GOLF BALL

What is compression? Dan looks at how the best players in the world compress the ball and gives you a drill to help you to understand how to compress the ball yourself.

To get compression on the golf ball you need to make sure your hands are in front at impact, the right hand pointing at the ball, have a descending angle of attack, weight over the left side, your sternum over the ball and your right shoulder moving through. The first thing you must do is to get your weight over the left side at impact.

  1. By the time the club reaches your heel line, is the clubhead level with your hands, or still lagging behind it? Do you want to feel it ‘lagging’ against the index finger still at that point? (Are you pulling the pressure through impact?)
